Prom Perfection

by Jorilou Shampo on May 23 2022
What makes these looks prom positive? They’re super-stylish yet less elaborate than bridal styles, making them all easy enough for you to do at home or with a quick trip to the salon. This season's hallmarks of haute head-turners are super shine, perfected ponytails, and a little extra texture on top for a glam slam. Name: Block Chain Braid Descriptor: A perfectly linked faux braid Best for Medium-to-fine straight hair that is at least bob length Tools needed: Faux braid with comb attachment, flat brush, elastic, hairpins Step 1: Start with second-day hair so the braid attachment grips. Step 2: Center-part your hair and slick it back behind your ears. Smooth hair close to your head with 911 Quinoa Hair Serum, but leave the ends product free. Pull all your hair to the side in the back, and secure with the elastic, leaving 2-3 inches free. Backcomb the ends and mist with BIOTOP 15 Creative Hair Spray. Tuck a few strands up and under the elastic. Step 3: Attach the braid’s concealed comb securely above the elastic, and smooth the braid’s sides around it, securing with hairpins if needed. Finish by misting on BIOTOP 15 Creative Hair Spray, smoothing the top. Apply a little extra hairspray to the braid’s attachment site, pull it over your shoulder and fluff the end puff. Hair: @gad_abuhatzira_hair Makeup: @avidu_mesharet Name: Tidal Wave Descriptor: Soft, sexy side waves Best for Medium-to-dense, wavy hair Tools needed: Blow-dryer, round brush, curling iron Step 1: Prep your hair for styling with BIOTOP 20 Volumizing Boost Shampoo and Conditioner. Towel dry and work through 35 Fiber Mousse. Step 2: Rough dry your hair as you lift the roots with your fingers and direct your hair to the side in front. Step 3: When hair is 85-90% dry, lift the front hairline with the brush and curve it to the side as you dry. Then, working from the bottom of the heavy side up, wrap sections loosely around the round brush, blow-dry, and release. Lightly scrunch the light side as you dry.Step 4: For extra detail, wrap select ends around a large-barrel curling iron mist with 19 Volumizing Boost Hairspray, hold for a few seconds, and then release. Step 5: To finish,finger-comb your hair lightly, then add a final misting of 15 Creative Hair Spray as you lift the front hairline. Name: Center of Attention Descriptor: A braided top meets a base-wrapped pony Best for Medium-to-dense, straight hair Tools needed: Blow dryer, curling iron, round brush, tail comb, elastic, bobby pins Step 1: Start with damp hair and spritz on 911 Quinoa All In One. Then, blow dry hair smooth, curving up the ends with the round brush. Step 2: Part off the center-top Mohawk area and create a large braid that moves to the back. Keep it loose by lifting loops with the end of a tail comb. Stop just behind the crown and secure with bobby pins, leaving ends hanging free. Step 3: Use the comb to part off tendrils at the sides. Then, brush the rest of the sides and back up to where the braid stops. Secure with an elastic and wrap the free ends of the braids around the base of the ponytail. Secure with bobby pins.Step 4: Softly curl the side tendrils with the curling iron. Then brush the ponytail into one giant, smooth section, run 911 Quinoa Hair Serum down it with your palms, and use the curling iron to curve up the ends. Step 5: Slip in your favorite decorative hair clip on top and mist with 15 Creative Spray for flexible hold. Hair: @oshrat_ayeli Name: Classic with a Twist Descriptor: Braids and hair accessories dress up this simple chignon Best for Fine-to-medium, straight to slightly wavy hair Tools needed: Tail comb, elastics, hair pins, sparkly beads or flowers Step 1: Work with second-day hair for extra texture and grip—section off the top in a U-shape. Then, divide it down the center, and create two French braids on each side. Lift them slightly off the scalp and direct them toward the back. When you reach the back crown, stop picking up extra hair at the sides, and three-strand braid down to the ends. Secure with elastics. Pin them out of the way. Step 2: Brush the sides up and back. Divide the rest of this hair in half horizontally. Step 3: Twist and wrap the top half into a chignon. Secure the base with an elastic, and pin sections in place as you wrap them around. As you work, backcomb large sections lightly to add volume. Step 4: Release the top braids that were pinned out of the way, wrap them around the chignon, and pin them in place. Arrange artfully, so some are at the base, and some show on top of the chignon. Step 5: Pull the bottom section up and subdivide it to create two upward moving braids. Secure the ends with elastic and wrap them around the chignon as you complete each braid. Slide beads, flowers, or jewels onto a hairpin and add for extra sparkle. Blow dry to remove excess moisture. Use the flat brush to smooth the top back, then pull out the ends as you dry. Step 2: When hair is 80-90% dry, work through BIOTOP 35 Fiber Mousse. Dry the top and sides first as you smooth them back. Step 3: Pull all the lengths into one top section, smooth the sides and pull it taut. Then, twist the entire section around itself at the base as you hold it in place with one hand and twist with the other. Secure with concealed hairpins. Step 4: Continue drying the waterfall ponytail, using the round brush to add lift and curve where desired. Step 5: Finish with a misting of BIOTOP 19 Volumizing Boost Hair Spray as you smooth the top and sides and lightly direct the ends of the ponytail with the round brush. Hair: @timor_aviv Makeup: @elodie_levy.makeup Name: Bun Fun Descriptor: A half-up/half-down ’do gets an unexpected bun Best for Medium-to-dense, straight, or slightly wavy hair Tools needed: Blow dryer, brush, tail comb, elastic, hairpins, optional curling iron Step 1: Brush through dry hair and section off a U-shape behind your front fringe. It should end just below the crown. Hold the base in the back, push it forward on top, and curve the sides with the comb to keep this section full. Then secure with an elastic. Step 2: Wrap the lengths around the elastic two times to create a bun and pull the ends through the center of the bun. Use the tail comb to lift the crown and rearrange the bun. Mist with BIOTOP 19 Volumizing Boost Hair Spray as you curve the sides and arrange the bun, adding hairpins as needed. Step 3: Mist the free ends with the hairspray and twist them as you blow dry to create waves. Step 4: Wrap all the ends and side tendrils around the curling iron for a soft finish. Allow hair to cool completely before brushing through. Hair: omer_hairr

New Rinseable Oil Treatments Get Your Hair Ready for Summer

by Jorilou Shampo on May 12 2022
These modern formulas leave your hair soft, shiny, smooth, and weightless Remember old-fashioned hot oil treatments? They promised all kinds of benefits, but you most likely ended up with a heavy, greasy oil slick that weighed your hair down for weeks. There had to be a better way! While working to develop a modern alternative, BIOTOP Professional’s founder Yehoda Levi discovered new technology that allowed him to develop the first lightweight rinseable oil treatments for all hair types. Recommended for use in the salon and at home, these modern lathering oil treatments are lighter, more effective and rinse out, leaving behind hair that is soft, smooth, shiny, and—wait for it—weightless! They’re perfect for getting your hair in its best condition for Summer, when more natural, carefree styles can’t hide frizz, flyaways or split ends. The formulas start with BIOTOP Professional’s signature purified water—the base of all of our products. This ensures a pH-balancing formula that keeps hair in optimum health. Choose from two color-safe, cruelty-free options. For all hair types, including dry and dull hair, our 911 Quinoa 911 Rinseable Hair Repair Oil Treatment is rich with Superfood Quinoa Extract, plus Sunflower Seed Oil, Vitamin E, Calendula, Salvia, Chamomile, and Panthenol. This deep-conditioning, revitalizing treatment helps to strengthen the hair, seal the cuticle, and lock in moisture. In addition, Quinoa, which includes nine essential amino acids that are similar to those found naturally in human hair, helps to restore the hair’s natural proteins and amino acids for strength and elasticity. This advanced formula smooths and seals each strand, replenishing moisture, reducing frizz and flyaways, and enhancing shine. They’re so easy to use. After shampooing, spray three-plus pumps of a BIOTOP Rinseable Oil Treatment into your palms. Rub them together to warm the oil and activate the ingredients, as the oil turns into a light white lather. Massage it into your hair from roots to ends. Leave on for 2 to 3 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. That’s it. You’re ready to style! Want to get your hair Summer-ready with a BIOTOP Rinseable Oil Treatment? Top Tips for Winter Hair Repair & Scalp Care

by Jorilou Shampo on Feb 24 2022

If you live in a colder climate, you probably notice a change in your hair and scalp during the winter. Outdoor arid temperatures and drying indoor heat can make your skin dry and flaky and your tresses limp, dull and frizzy. Kelly Harrison, BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL U.S. Educator, shares her favorite tips to help you cope with harsh winter conditions. Incorporate a Hydrating Mask to care for your hair and scalp in the winter. Between the cold air outside and the drying heat inside, your hair and scalp are sure to be feeling the effects. These harsh climates can really dehydrate your hair strands, causing frizz and making your hair more prone to breakage. It is essential that you do your part to restore your hair’s moisture and natural oils. If you don’t regularly use a mask, start with BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL 911 Quinoa Hair Mask, a luxurious creamy formula enriched with pure quinoa extract, macadamia oil, argan oil and vitamin E. It features all the essential proteins & vitamins necessary to hydrate and nourishes your scalp and hair, restoring strength, elasticity, and shine. Use every wash or every other was during the Winter months. Massage Away Dry Scalp Just as you might love a facial, a scalp treatment at your favorite salon or even at home will be a true act of self-care. Use our rich, creamy mask and/or serum from the BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL 911 Quinoa line, combined with a soothing scalp massage to nourish and hydrate your scalp and hair. Adding in a scalp massage, even if you do it yourself, will ensure any flakes or build up are removed from the scalp and will stimulate circulation to the root areas, promoting a cleansed and healthy hair growth base. Plus, it’s a relaxing treat! Use a leave-in treatment to help prevent or control static and flyaways. Using a leave-in protectant during the Winter months is a must to make sure you are not only adding in an extra dose of moisture but protecting your strands from the harsh environmental Winter elements as well. BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL 911 All In One Quinoa Hair Treatment is a multi-purpose, nourishing leave-in treatment that hydrates and locks-in moisture, prevents frizz, and provides UV and heat protection (important even in the winter). The result? Smooth, shiny, frizz-free hair. Other non-product related tips to help your hair look its best during the harsh Winter months include: • Sleep on a silk pillowcase to treat your hair gently—the silk fabric won’t ruffle the cuticle (the outer layer of each strand) or tug at your hair while you sleep. • Use a cooler setting on your blow-dryer to prevent burning your scalp and hair. • DO NOT go outside with wet or damp hair. Make sure it is completely dry. When it’s wet, it swells and becomes more brittle in frigid air, leading to breakage. • If you wear a hat, avoid wool and knit caps, which can be abrasive on your hair. Instead, choose a hat with a soft interior or silk lining so it glides across your hair without pulling. What are your favorite winter haircare tips? Please share in the comments.

Why pH-balancing haircare really matters!

by Jorilou Shampo on Jan 17 2022
You might have heard your hair stylist, beauty editors or product companies talking about the pH of haircare and skincare products. But what exactly does that mean? And how does it impact YOU? Simply explained, the pH of any solution with water in it tells you if it is acidic or alkaline. pH is measured on a scale of 1 (acidic lemon juice or vinegar) to 14 (bleach is 13.5 or depilatories). Pure (distilled) water is in the middle with a pH of 7. Nature is smart: Hair and the skin’s acid mantle are kept “balanced” via solutions with a slightly acidic pH of 4.5 to 5.5 that help combat bacteria and environmental stressors. So, what you put on your hair and scalp matters a lot if you want to maintain a protective pH balance. That results in hair that’s healthy, soft, smooth and shiny, and a hydrated scalp that provides an ideal environment for growing healthy hair, and is also free of flakes, itching and even dandruff. Pollutants, detergents, soaps, harsh cleansers and even water can disrupt your skin’s ideal pH. For example, tap water, with a pH of about 7.9, opens the hair’s cuticle, swelling it by as much as 20%. That can cause tangles when you get out of the shower, breakage and frizz. If you have hard water, the pH can be as high as 8.5, making the effects on your hair and skin even worse. Note: Hair color uses an alkalizing agent with a pH between 9 and 11, which is how it opens the cuticle to deposit a new hair color. Because of these daily assaults, choosing purely pH-balanced haircare is more important than ever. At BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL, our exclusive manufacturing process tests our products at seven different stages to maintain formulas with a balanced pH at every step of production. This process meets the strictest international standards in quality control. That means our shampoos are pH-balanced to cleanse and hydrate the hair and scalp without stripping precious natural oils, leaving them soft, balanced and prepared to accept our treatments. Our conditioners, masks, serums and oils help strengthen, smooth and close the hair’s cuticle, leaving your hair smooth, sleek and shiny, and helping it to retain hair color. So the next time you’re loving that your hair’s so manageable and easy to style, you’ll know it’s all due to the science behind the BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL products you use every day.

Holiday Trends

by Jorilou Shampo on Dec 13 2021
Looking for the hottest styles for the holidays and to ring in 2022? BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL has identified four stunning trends straight from the runways that will look like you spent all day on your hair (you won’t). The Bubble Pony; Chic Braided Bun; Full, Glamorous Curls and the Half Updo. We asked master session stylist Tel Aviv-based Kobi Kalderon (@kobikalderon) for the tips and tricks he used to create these looks. Pop The Bubbly! The Ultimate Bubble Pony Best for: Hair that is medium-to-thick with medium-to-coarse texture Tools needed: Hairbrush, pintail comb and hair bands Step 1: Prep your hair with 911 Quinoa Shampoo and 911 Quinoa Conditioner. Then, apply 911 Quinoa Serum Spray to towel-dried hair from mid-strands to ends to give your hair a smooth and shiny, flyway-free finish. Step 2: Blow dry hair smooth. Step 3: Smooth hair with your flat iron. Step 4: Gather hair into a low ponytail. Create sections every 2 to 3 inches, gently teasing each section to achieve desired fullness. Step 5: Gather each section using your fingers to form a “bubble.” Step 6: Smooth hair with your comb and secure each bubble with a hair band. Repeat until you have your desired number of bubbles. TIP: Gently teasing will help hair form each bubble. She’s So Chic Chic braided bun Best for: Any hair type and especially hair with medium-to-thick density Tools needed: Hairbrush, pintail comb and U-shaped hair pins Step 1: Flat iron your hair smooth. Step 2: Gather your hair into a high ponytail. Spray with 15 Creative Hair Spray, creating a clean surface and smoothing frizz and flyaways as you go. Step 3: Make a classic braid. Step 4: Wrap the braid around itself on the top of your head to form a bun. Secure the bun with U hair pins. Finish with 15 Creative Hair Spray, a fast-drying hair spray that provides a light hold. Tip: Using hair spray during styling will help prevent frizz and flyaways. All Natural – But Make it Glam Full, Glamorous Curls Best for: Extremely curly/textured hair Tools needed: Your hair dryer and hair diffuser Step 1: Brush through your hair scalp to ends. Then, prep your hair for styling with 69 Pro Active Shampoo and 69 Pro Active Hair Mask to moisturize curls, banish frizz and leave your hair soft and easy to style. Step 2: Gently massage 69 Pro Active Hair Soufflé into curls, separating and lifting curls with your hands. Allow hair to set. Step 3: Blow dry your hair on low through your diffuser. Do not brush hair once it’s dry. Step 4: Apply 69 Pro Active Frizz Control, a lightweight styling spray that fights humidity and helps curls last. Step 5: Comb the hair with your fingers, lifting at the scalp to maximize volume without sticky residue. This gives your curls natural bounce, movement and maximum volume and shine. Tip: When it comes to a full head of curls, let your hands and your products do the work. Too much brushing or combing can lead to static and frizz Home for the Holidays Cute & Casual ½ updo Best for: Long hair and all hair types. If your hair is extremely curly or textured, you will need to iron it to create soft waves first. If your hair is fine, add extensions to provide length and volume. Tools needed: Pintail comb, hair bands, U-shaped hair pins, your hair dryer and diffuser Step 1: Prep your hair with 911 Quinoa Shampoo and 911 Quinoa Conditioner. Towel dry, then apply 911 Quinoa Serum from mid-shaft to ends to help restore and revitalize hair. Step 2: Finish drying hair through a diffuser to maximize texture. Curl hair with a flat iron. Allow hair to cool. Step 3: Brush hair to open up the curls into loose waves. Step 4: Gather the front into a high ponytail and apply 911 Quinoa All In One to add shine and highlight the texture. Secure with a hair band. Step 5: Twist/wrap the pony into a bun and secure with U-shaped hair pins. Pull out a few tendrils to frame your face and finish with 15 Creative Hair Spray to hold. Tip: Experiment with the size or placement of your bun to get different looks.

Quinoa for the Hair: A Love Story (Based on Science)

by YAEL RATSABY on Jun 13 2021

Thousands of years before the term “superfood” was invented, people understood the wonders of quinoa. In South America, the protein-rich whole grain was a popular food across the ages, consumed for its delicious taste and healthy benefits. With the help of modern science, we now know that quinoa is truly a superfood, rich in amino acids, proteins, minerals, such as iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2 and B6. All these are essential for health, and especially for the hair. That’s why nutritionists today recommend regular consumption of quinoa to help keep hair beautiful and healthy. Why hair loves quinoa The hair structure is made up of proteins, minerals, and vitamins, many of which are also found in quinoa. The protein in quinoa acts as a natural, delicate coating that penetrates the base of the hair and nourishes it from within. A range of B vitamins promote healthy blood circulation, ensuring the supply of oxygen to the hair follicles essential for growth. In quinoa extract, these natural nutrients are efficiently absorbed by the body, and have been found to help repair dry and damaged hair. It all began in Bolivia BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL’s love affair with quinoa began when the founder of the company, Yehuda Levy, discovered the superfood on a trip to quinoa fields in Bolivia. Levy noticed that the skin of the hands of those working to harvest and process quinoa was particularly smooth and radiant. Upon his return to Israel, he got busy in the BIOTOP lab, together with a team of leading chemists, examining the benefits of the plant and its effects on hair. The results were impressive, especially in the treatment of dry hair and revitalization of damaged hair. Soon after, the QUINOA 911 series was born. 911: A unique approach to quinoa Products in the QUINOA 911 series contain pure, fresh quinoa that has been ground in a cold press to preserve its nutritive value. The production process uses purified water that undergoes a special filtration process and therefore does not contain chlorine or toxins that may impair the efficiency of the nutrients. The unique formula, the quality of ingredients, together with strict manufacturing protocols, create a diverse product line that offers the ultimate solution for the treatment of dry hair or hair that is damaged from chemical treatment or environmental exposure. From first use, you can feel the restored sensation of soft, flexible hair that is full of shine. The QUINOA 911 series includes a full range of professional hair care products, including Shampoo, Conditioner, Mask, Serum, Hair Oil, Serum Spray, and All-In-One Spray, all formulated to deliver maximum results with ultimate ease of use in the salon. Beyond quinoa BIOTOP PROFESSIONAL expertise in hair health goes way beyond quinoa to a wide range of professional products for all hair types, BIOTOP products are sold in 25+ countries, to more than 15,000 professional hairdressers. All products are based on natural, eco-friendly ingredients, free from parabens, sodium chloride, SLS/SLES, and not tested on animals. The manufacturing process and resulting product quality meets the strictest international standards in the professional hair care industry. The company invests heavily in R&D, working with leading scientists and hair care professionals to deliver the best innovations in styling products and hair treatments, with an emphasis on quality, safety and ease of use – including of course the QUINOA 911 series. SOS for dry hair BIOTOP’s product range covers all hair conditions; however, the 911 QUINOA series was specifically developed for the treatment of dry hair of all types: straight, wavy, curly, coiled, wigs, weaves, and extensions.
